It’s true, we are absolute coffee lovers. My husband claims he is a coffee snob, but he calls me a coffee addict. Well, I should not be approached before I had coffee in the morning, I will also drink Nescafe Instant in a pinch (I know, right?) when he would rather not drink coffee at all.
Our favorite form of coffee is Caffè Latte in big 16 oz mugs. Lots of milk, 3 oz Lavazza Espresso and a nice layer of foam to top it off.
Every Passover, we buy a new Bialetti Moka Maker – this year we got the orange one, which I am totally in love with. We use it for Passover and then throughout the year. Since we make coffee in it twice a day, it gets a lot of use. By the time, Passover come around again, we have worn it down and need a new one.
The problem is always the frothy milk. We have a frother that initially came with it, but it is worn out and was a pain to clean because of the two layers of fine mesh. Now, we just use a simple mason jar to get the same great foamy goodness, just without the annoying cleanup.
Here is how you can make milk foam easily at home (enough for 2 cups):
- Heat one wide mouth mason jar full of milk in the microwave (whole milk works better)
- Carefully take out, pour half into cups.
- Heat for another 30 seconds.
- Carefully take it out (it’s hot) close the lid and band tight and shake for about 45-60 seconds.
Please note: The glass will be hot, so use your common sense. Use an oven mitt or towel. Don’t place it too hard on the counter or use metal spoons as the glass could shatter.
